A beloved waterman and true ambassador of aloha, George Kam is known for his generous spirit and uplifting energy. When a stroke left him paralyzed on his right side, it shook his family and friends — but never their belief in his strength.
At REHAB Hospital, George found more than medical treatment. He found mana — present in the people, the place and the powerful moments of aloha, compassion, and shared kuleana to care for one another. From day one, his care team saw him as a whole person, not just a patient. Nurses, aides, and therapists created a space where healing could truly begin. His therapy was grounded in what he loved most: surfing. From waxing a board to simulating surf sessions, his body slowly began to respond. Then came a breakthrough — his once-paralyzed ankle moved. A small motion, but a major turning point.
Today, George walks with a cane and continues his journey with deep humility and gratitude.
“If you want to learn the lessons of aloha lived,” he says, “this is the place.”
