What is Pilates?
Pilates is a form of exercise developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates which focuses on the balanced development of the body.
The six principles of Pilates are: centering, control, flow, breath, precision and concentration.
Its foundation is alignment and strengthening of the core muscles -- the deep, internal muscles of the abdomen and the back. As core strength increases, so does stability and control, allowing a body to move freely and efficiently.
REHAB at Aiea integrates these Pilates principles into our patient’s rehabilitation programs using classical Pilates apparatus. Our equipment includes specifically designed pieces to meet the unique rehabilitation challenges of all of our patients from the elite athletes to those recovering from a stroke. This is what we call Clinical Pilates.
