In Hawaii, the leading cause of death is Cardiovascular Disease.  There are a lot of programs out there that discuss prevention.  But what happens if you or someone you love has already had a stroke or heart disease?  Doctors will tell you to watch your diet, control your blood pressure and to get on an exercise regimen.  But one of the things that people don’t realize is the “fear factor.”  Fear that if you over exert yourself, you’ll suffer another episode.  That is where a formalized cardiac rehabilitation program can help to guide you.  Ironically, Hawaii was one of the only states without a formal cardiac program.  Until now…

Clifford’s Story:
After suffering a heart attack on February 16, 2012, Clifford Stine had his triple bypass surgery.  He was ready to make a change in his health, but was unsure of exactly how to start.  Luckily, Clifford was referred to REHAB’s new Cardiac Health Program which opened its doors on March 1, 2012.  As the only dedicated program of its kind in the state, he received a custom-tailored exercise and lifestyle plan from a team of professionals who monitored his progress throughout the exercise sessions.  The result: Mr. Stine lost nearly 13 pounds and was able to reduce his blood pressure by 20 points! “The staff really helped me to overcome my anxiety with working out again.” And overcome he did.  On May 10, 2012, Clifford became the first patient to graduate from REHAB’s Cardiac Health Program and is now on the path to a healthier life!
